Boutonniere Workshop

I joined another workshop by Olla. This time, we made boutonnieres.
I love the simplicity of those we made and every creation was so beautiful!
My pieces are the first four and I like the second one most.
I wish these boutonnieres could last for ever, but they won’t.
Ephemerality: I guess that’s an essential part of the beauty in plants.

Dried Lemons

I made lemon tea using a dried lemon. I like lemon tea with honey.
Just boil the water and cook one dried lemon for about five minutes,
then add lots of honey and a bit of cinnamon to taste.
If you don’t like the bitterness, I think you need to cook the lemon shorter.
I also made “khoresh gheymeh,” a Persian food.
I got this recipe from my sweet friend, Sepi, who is half Iranian and half Japanese,
and now lives in Australia (her husband is Brazilian. So international!).
Because my husband doesn’t eat lamb, I used beef.
I actually used only two dried lemons instead of five mentioned on the recipe.
Interestingly, this stew always comes with french fries and we think it’s brilliant.
I served the stew on saffron rice with barberries. (Thank you, Sepi!).

Tulip House

Before this concert, we went for a walk in West End,
and dropped by this heritage house to see tulips.
They were huge and dynamic, and seemed to be singing with the wind.
Nice!

Cello Night

Brahms & Dvořák
presented by Vancouver Symphony Orchestra
Conductor: Christoph Köenig
Cello: Jan Vogler*

 =Programs=

Weber Der Freischütz: Overture
Dvořák Cello Concerto in B minor, Op.104*
Brahms Symphony No. 2 in D Major, Op. 73

Recently

There is one of my favourite chocolate shops in Coal Harbour
and they have a small park in front.
A lot of pretty flowers are blooming right now
and passing through the park this time of year is so fun.

My hubby bought bananas I can’t remember how many days (or weeks even) ago,
and of course, it’s blackened.
I don’t eat law bananas, so I made a banana bread for the bananas’ sake.
I used whole wheat flour with a bit of bread flour and it turned out pretty good.

Also, we got good news from my sweet younger sister.
Her fiance and she submitted a marriage paper this week and technically,
they are Husband & Wife now! My sister as a wife…I can’t believe it!

Plant Sale

I had been looking forward to this annual plant sale
at VanDusen Botanical Garden for quite some time.
We have neither a garden nor balcony,
so we only bought some herbs and succulent plants for my window gardening .
There were so many vegetable and flowery plants I want to try in the future though.
 After finding some nice plants,
we walked around the garden for a while (free admission on the Plant Sale day every year).
Spring flowers were beautifully in bloom and it would be a great place to have a picnic.
We are thinking to bring some lunch with us next year.

After the plant sale, we went to this bistro cafe
for a poutine with gorgonzola cheese as an appetizer,
a breakfast called “Hastings” for my hubby
and croissant with smoked salmon and blue cheese for me.
They were simple, but tasty.
