Terrarium Workshop

７０年代に人気だったテラリウム、ここ最近見かけることが増えました。 

ガラスの容器に小石、炭、土などの層をつくり、

その上に植物を植え 小さなエコシステムを作っていくのですが、

 この技法は遡ること１９世紀、 

英国のナサニエル・ワードというお医者さまが偶然生み出したものだそうです。

 そんなテラリウムを、大好きな植物スタジオのワークショップで作りました。

 今回はトロピカル、多肉植物、エアープランツの中から選べたのですが、 

家の日当り状態などをいろいろ考えた結果、多肉を選びました。 

個性がでるテラリウム。 

ヴィンテージのガラスケースを使って作った私の作品はシンプルです。

 ローカルのテラリウミストのアンディとオーナーのメーガン、 

さらに個性的な参加者の皆さんとともに、とっても楽しい時間を過ごしました。

ところで私のテラリアムは、海辺をイメージしました。

 I joined a workshop offered by Olla Urban Flower Project last Sunday 

and made my first terrarium! 

There were tropical, succulent, and air plants available and I chose a succulent plant. 

Though it wasn’t that difficult to make, there was definitely geology involved; 

there are a layer of pebbles and gravels, a thin layer of charcoal, 

another of soil, then plants and accents… 

My creation is very simple, but it was really fun creating my own ecosystem. 

Everyone was enjoying to make his/her own and each was so nice and original. 

Oh, and I’d love to mention how beautiful Megan’s studio is. 

It is filled with ethical plants and flowers, 

and is one of my most favourite places in Vancouver. 

I cannot wait to visit there again soon.

Waxflowers

I bought waxflowers. They are simple but pretty like tiny gem stones.

 A sweet herblike aroma comes out if you crush the flower. 

The academic word for waxflower is chamelaucium, which I cannot pronounce…

カラフルなお花でつくられたゴージャスな花束も好きだけど、 

デザインなどをなにも考えずにただ集めただけのシンプルなものも、とても好きです。 

久しぶりに見つけたワックスフラワーは、お花の部分を指で潰すといい香りがします。 たった２ドルだったのに、まるで宝石のように可愛い（＾＾）
